Apple’s SVP Of Hardware Technologies Was Not Present At Vision Pro Unveiling, Hinting At Growing Dissent Within Company

Apple Vision Pro

It comes as no surprise that the Apple Vision Pro is getting all the eyeballs in the world right now, but the road to its inception was filled with deep potholes. While nearly everyone was exploring how Apple’s first AR headset could disrupt the way we interact with our daily devices, there was a missing executive at the official announcement, and he had a major role to play in the headset’s materialization. Yes, we are talking about the company’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies, Johny Srouji.

Johny Srouji and his team were behind the development of the M2 and R1 chips featured inside the Apple Vision Pro, and some may have noticed his absence

Apple’s SVP of Hardware Technologies pushed the launch of the M1, the technology giant’s first member of the Apple Silicon family. Srouji was also responsible for the two chipsets, the M2 and R1, powering the Vision Pro, and according to Notebookcheck, his lack of presence at the WWDC 2023 keynote during the all-important ‘One More Thing’ reveal can hint at a lot of internal issues within the company. Firstly, we reported earlier that there was a disagreement between Apple executives and the design team over the launch of the product due to it not being ready for the market.

Even though the Apple Vision Pro has been officially announced, it will not be available to purchase until early 2024, highlighting that it is still not ready. According to an earlier report, Srouji compared the AR headset to a science project and believed that resources could be better allocated towards iPhone chip development since this product line was the biggest moneymaker for the company. It is likely that Srouji has distanced himself from the device, though we have no way of confirming this at this time.

Regardless, with the Apple Vision Pro’s introduction, the mixed-reality headset will eventually carve out a market for itself and whether Srouji and his team like it or not, they will continue to undertake responsibility towards developing more powerful and efficient Apple Silicon for it. Speaking of Apple Silicon, the M3 will be the company’s next SoC that will eventually be found in several Macs. However, as far as the second Vision Pro version is concerned, it will take a while to reach the masses, as it is not slated to arrive before 2025.
