Diablo IV features a lot of different gear that comes with different properties as well as different appearances, so it may be difficult to balance combat benefits and good, peculiar looks for your character.
Thankfully, the latest entry in the long-running series doesn't force you to choose between a great piece of gear that doesn't look good on your character and one that provides mediocre bonuses but looks amazing, thanks to an incredibly easy-to-use transmog system.
How to Transmog in Diablo IV
The Diablo IV transmog system is extremely straightforward, and you do not need to do anything special to unlock it, as it will be available as soon as you complete the very first story quests in the Fractured Peaks area and reach Kyovashad. Next to your stash, you will find the Wardrobe, and by interacting with it, you will be able to pick an appearance for all your equipped items, unequip their appearance so it looks like you are not equipping anything, and even save your customized look in different slots. A single slot is available for free, while additional ones must be unlocked with Gold.
At the start of Diablo IV, however, you won't have any option besides the Default and Unequipped Look options, as any other option must be unlocked first. This is just as easy to do as unlocking the transmog system in the game, as all you need to do to unlock new looks for gear is to salvage items by any blacksmith. You will know that an item will unlock a new Wardrobe option when salvaged when there's a small icon on the item while in the Salvage menu. Bringing up the item details will also tell you if the item will unlock a new Wardrobe option upon salvaging. Other than unlocking new looks, Salvaging provides you with plenty of materials that can be used to upgrade other great, making it, almost always, what you want to do when you have gear you do not need, so make sure to do so often to expand your gameplay and cosmetic options in Diablo IV.
