Truecaller is perhaps the quintessential caller identity app on both Android and iOS, and today, the company has announced that its famous call recording feature is coming back to the apps available on both platforms. Now, it is worth noting that Android and iOS do have countermeasures in place that prevent call recording from happening, but the app managed to circumvent this by using a dedicated recording line.
The call recording feature on Truecaller is excellent as long as it is not used in the wrong way
Now, considering how Truecaller is bringing call recording on both Android and iOS, the process for each operating system is a bit different. On Android, you are looking at a straightforward path. Using the Truecaller's dialer, you will be allowed to record a call. However, if you are using a different dialer, which of course, is something that Android users do, you will see a floating recording button, and you will be good to go.
On iOS, however, things are a bit more complicated. Users will need to call a recording line through the Truecaller app and merge the calls, and yes, the company has mentioned that the person whose call is being recorded will hear a beep, indicating that the call is being recorded.
In addition to the call recording feature, Truecaller is also going to introduce transcripts, a feature that will be rolling out to the users in teh coming weeks, and you can even search through these for easier access. Thankfully, the information will be stored locally on the device, meaning that the company won't have access to any of the data.
Although I don't remember the last time I used Truecaller, I am glad that the feature is coming to all premium users. If you are someone who prefers call recording, then this feature is something that can be of use to you. However, it also brings around a lot of privacy concerns that people might have with this feature,, and one can only hope that this feature is not used for some malicious things. After all, we would not want things to get out of hand for anyone in the first place.
Speaking of the premium plan, Truecaller offers three tiers. You can go for the basic ad-free plan ($1 per month), a premium plan with call recording ($3.99 per month), a top-tier plan with call screening assistant ($4.49 per month), and considering the features that you get, the price you are paying is not at all a lot. You can check the breakdown of all these plans below and get an understanding.
