Apple will announce the new iPhone 15 series later this year with a boatload of forward-facing changes. However, the company has already started working on future iPhone models with major changes. The latest suggests that Apple is working on an iPhone with a bezel-less display and it has requested Samsung Display and LG to develop OLED screens according to the standard. The iPhone 15 Pro is already rumored to house comparatively slimmer bezels than the current iPhone 14 Pro and it seems the company wants to continue the trend.
Apple is working on an all-screen bezel-less iPhone but suppliers would first have to figure out UPC and TFE challenges
According to a new report published by The Elec, Apple is working on a bezel-less iPhone and it has asked Samsung Display and LG Display to manufacture OLED panels that meet the required standards. To eliminate the bezels, Samsung and LG Display will have to figure out the challenges pertaining to thin film encapsulation (TFE) and under-panel camera (UPC) technologies. Other than this, the report also mentions that the suppliers also have to secure antenna space before finalizing the final product.
At this point in time, Samsung and LG are the key suppliers who are working on OLED panels with no bezels on the front. As mentioned earlier, Apple's obsession with minimal bezels will be evident with this year's iPhone 15 Pro launch. The devices are slated to feature one of the slimmest bezels on any smartphone. With today's report in sight, Apple's end goal is to make the entire iPhone display bezel-less, free from any distractions.
A bezel-less iPhone would make sense with zero intrusions on the front. What this means is that the suppliers are working to accommodate Face ID sensors and cameras under the display, The OLED screens would overlay the sensors and offer an all-screen design without distractions. Currently, Apple is working to bring Dynamic Island to all iPhone 15 models, streamlining the front outlook of the devices.
BREAKING! Apple is working on a 0-bezel iPhone! Looks like Cook is a fan of mine and he hates bezels as much as I do.

The report also mentions that the bezel-less iPhone would house a flat display, suggesting that the company will not make a shift towards curved edges to blend in with the frame. As for the thin film encapsulation, Apple wants suppliers to thin down the inorganic and organic films that protect the internals of the device from moisture and oxygen.
While Apple is working on an all-screen or bezel-less iPhone, the report does not mention when it will be announced. Possibly, the technology could see daylight in the coming years before Apple transitioned to its custom microLED displays. Nonetheless, we will keep you guys updated on the latest, so be sure to stick around.
