Microsoft is Possibly Teasing Fable for its Upcoming Xbox Showcase

Fable

Microsoft might very well be teasing Playground Games' upcoming Fable reboot for its upcoming Xbox showcase in a couple of weeks.

Some hours ago, the official Xbox Twitter account posted an interesting short video for its Xbox showcase on June 11. "Do you love GAMES  as much as we do?", the tweet reads. "Then you won’t want to miss the Xbox Games Showcase."

Nothing too special there, but the accompanying video might be as it might be related to the highly-anticipated Fable. We've included the tweet and video below. In this video, we can clearly hear the music from the original Fable. In addition, the glitter and sparking breadcrumb trail might also be a reference to the series as this glowing trail is used to guide players to their quest objective or start of a certain quest. Although not present in the original Fable, the "breadcrumb' trail was introduced in 2008's Fable II and was also used in 2010's Fable III. Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that we'll be getting Fable news during the Xbox Showcase, but it's an interesting tease nonetheless.

Announced in 2020, the Fable reboot has reportedly faced some development issues due to Microsoft insisting that Playground uses in-house engines instead of the new Unreal Engine 5. In addition, it's been claimed that development on the reboot is progressing slowly due to the Playground having a somewhat hard time adapting to making an open-world title. Luckily, Microsoft's Matt Booty has been, as expected, greatly optimistic about the game.

“There's stuff I wish I could share and show, because some of the things I've seen are just so encouraging. There's a danger sometimes, that you don't want to [have] the RPG team go make a racing game or vice-versa. You don't want the shooter team to make a kid's building-block game. You can get in trouble there. But [Playground has] a great technology base, they've got a passion for the IP, and they've just got such a demonstrated commitment to craft and quality. [...] During some of the first reviews, I shared a little skepticism that, look, I feel like we're kind of going out on a limb here, but they've since put that to rest. I'm excited for everybody to see it.”

Earlier this year, VGC's Andy Robinson said that the Fable reboot won't be released anytime soon as the game has only entered full production recently.

Fable is currently in development for Xbox and PC at Forza Horizon developer Playground Games. The game has yet to receive a release frame, but hopefully, we'll hear more about this reboot during the Xbox Showcase in a couple of weeks. What are your thoughts about this?
