Today, publisher Victura and developer Highwire Games announced the release date of Six Days in Fallujah.
The cooperative tactical first-person shooter game set in 2004's Second Battle of Fallujah will be available via Steam Early Access starting June 22, priced at $39.99. According to the Steam page, the developers are planning an early access phase of a little more than a year. That's quite the delay since the game was originally scheduled for a late 2021 launch before being moved to Q4 2022. Now, it looks like the full version (which is also coming to consoles) might be launched in Summer or Fall 2024.
When the game launches on Steam Early Access in late June, players can expect four missions. However, the game's twist is that the architecture of the maps is procedural to provide a fresh experience every time you play.
In addition to that, Highwire Games is touting a 'block-scale AI' inspired by insurgent tactics during the real battle. This AI can move anywhere on the map without restrictions, unlike in most other games, flanking your team and luring them into traps. It's another reason for players to always stick together, as doing otherwise would assuredly mean certain death.
On the other hand, players can come up with their own alternative strategies to enter occupied buildings and areas. They have the chance to climb on rooftops, cross planks to move between adjacent buildings, breaching windows and/or doors.
Visibility is also going to affect gameplay in a meaningful way, thanks to dynamic lighting. The outdoors are extremely bright, but the interiors are pitch dark. Weather effects may also further complicate the situation.
Highwire Games said that the first missions available at the early access launch of Six Days in Fallujah are set during the first day of the battle, modeled after the real experiences of US Marine fireteams. During early access, additional missions will be introduced to the game featuring different time of day and weather. Moreover, special operations and Iraqi soldiers fighting on the side of coalition forces will become playable, and players can also look forward to the addition of civilians as well as competent AI teammates that can join your squad.
There's a new 10-minute gameplay video from the early access build embedded above. The Steam page also listed the game's minimum and recommended system requirements.
