AYANEO has unveiled its brand new gaming handhelds, the KUN & SLIDE, featuring AMD's Ryzen 7 7840U APU codenamed Phoenix.
AYANEO KUN: Highest End Offering From the Company
AYANEO has been at the forefront when it comes to bringing innovations to the handheld industry. The company has rapidly released next-gen consoles based on the AMD Ryzen 7000 APU platform. However, with its upcoming AYANEO KUN and AYANEO SLIDE, we could see the handheld industry elevated to much greater heights. Here is a detailed rundown of the highly anticipated handhelds.
The AYANEO KUN is dubbed a "top-tier flagship" since it features cutting-edge specifications which the industry has never seen before. The handheld device features the Ryzen 7 7840U Phoenix APU based on Zen4. It includes eight cores & 16 threads powered by the latest Radeon 780M iGPU featuring RDNA 3 architecture. This specific APU is power-efficient and performs exceptionally at just 15-28W power draw. The processor performs similarly to the Ryzen Z1 Extreme inside the ROG ALLY and sometimes beats it too.
The AYANEO KUN features an 8.4" 2.5K resolution IPS screen which the company says has excellent quality output. Although details like peak brightness and color gamut are not yet disclosed, we believe AYANEO KUN won't compromise this department.
The handheld device features the largest screen in the industry, surpassing the competitors such as the Steam Deck & ROG ALLY. However, with this huge screen, having a significant weight is inevitable, so the device is expected to weigh more than 900g. While the large screen is a plus point, would consumers accept the weight tradeoff?
We have seen that battery life has always been an issue in handheld devices; however, the AYANEO KUN could eradicate it. The device will feature a massive 75Wh (19,500mAh) battery, the largest we have seen. For comparison, the battery size is much bigger than several modern gaming laptops. With such high battery capacity, it will be interesting to see how the company handles the thermal department, especially during charging.
AYANEO has also implemented several changes to the onboard controlling options. Still, perhaps the most unique one is the inclusion of buttons on the back of the device, allowing consumers to have much greater control over their device.
The AYANEO KUN is expected to launch by August and is set to be an industry-leading Windows handheld device. Although the pricing of the handheld hasn't been disclosed yet, it may touch the $1000 mark depending upon what offerings the company brings.
AYANEO SLIDE: Laptop In the Form of a Handheld
AYANEO SLIDE is the company's latest offering to provide users with the option of expanding their device's usage. The handheld will also be powered by AMD Ryzen 7 7840U APU, which, as previously discussed, is a capable processor competing in the flagship segment of the industry.
While we have seen keyboards attached to handheld devices such as the Win Max 2, the AYANEO SLIDE has a different mechanism. You can slide the screen, which will reveal the keyboard once you slide it up. In this way, not only does the handheld look aesthetically appealing, but you can use the keyboard whenever you want, unlike in the Win Max 2, where the keyboard is visible at all times.
The AYANEO SLIDE features a similar button configuration to other models with little to no difference. The only selling point of this device is its sliding screen mechanism, which will be helpful for those looking for a device that can do much more than just gaming. The AYANEO SLIDE is also expected to launch alongside AYANEO KUN by August.
AYANEO has been launching several handheld devices in quick succession. Although the devices have gained popularity through reviewers and enthusiasts, AYANEO has yet to influence consumer markets where it will face tough competition from the likes of Steam Deck and ROG ALLY. The company will hold a showcase session on 23rd July, demonstrating the capabilities of upcoming devices.
