Intel Core i7-14700K 20 Core Raptor Lake Refresh CPU Benchmarks Leak Up To 15% Faster Than 13700K

Intel Adds AI & Machine Learning Instruction Set For Arrow Lake-S & Lunar Lake CPUs 1

First alleged benchmarks of Intel's 14th Gen Raptor Lake-S Refresh "Core i7-14700K" CPU featuring 20 cores and higher clocks have leaked out.

Intel Raptor Lake Refresh, Core i7-14700K, CPU Delivers 15% Performance Increase Over 13700K In Leaked Benchmarks

In benchmarks leaked @wxnod, we get to see what seems to be the first instance of the Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake-S Refresh Desktop CPUs running on an Intel Z790 motherboard. We know that all Raptor Lake-S Refresh CPUs will be compatible with the 600 and 700-series motherboards & there are already BIOS out with preliminary support for the upcoming chips.

With that said, the benchmarks and CPU-z screenshot for the alleged Intel Core i7-14700K CPU are leaked out which give us an early taste of the performance and specifications. The CPU will utilize the Intel 7 process node (10nm ESF) and feature an 8+12 configuration which allows for 20 cores & 28 threads. The CPU base clock speed hasn't been reported but another leaker points out 28 MB of L2 cache and 33 MB of L3 cache which is a 16.6% and 10% boost over the 13700K, respectively. The chip seems to run at the same base clock as the 13700K at 3.4 GHz but the boost clocks remain an unknown for now.

Just for comparison, the following are the specs difference between the three hybrid chips:

  • Core i7-14700K - 20 Cores / 28 Threads / 3.4 GHz Base / 28 MB L2 / 33 MB L3
  • Core i7-13700K - 16 Cores / 24 Threads / 3.4 GHz Base / 24 MB L2 / 30 MB L3
  • Core i7-12700K - 12 Cores / 20 Threads / 3.6 GHz Base / 12 MB L2 / 25 MB L3

The Intel 14th Gen Raptor-Lake-S Refresh Core i7-14700K CPU was tested in three benchmarks. For the first benchmark, we have Cinebench R23 where the chip scored 36292 points in multi-core and 2192 points in single-core. That's a 15% performance uplift in multi-core and a 4% uplift in single-threaded tests over the Core i7-13700K. The CPU-z scores of 905 points in single-core and 14988 points in multi-core also reveal a similar performance increase of 14% in mult and 2% in the single-threaded tests.

It can be seen that most of the multi-threaded improvement here comes from the fact that the i7-14700K features a higher core and thread count. The clock speed gains are marginal at best & that could be noticed in the single-threaded performance gains. For a refresh, these gains are ok but we also need to know how much more power hungry and what the pricing on these chips is going to be like. Furthermore, the Raptor Lake-S Refresh Desktop CPUs will continue to use the 14th Gen naming convention, unlike the Meteor Lake mobility chips which will be using the new "Core Ultra" branding.

Besides this, we also get to see an AIDA64 Cache and Memory benchmark with the chip scoring up to 113.66 GB/s Read Speeds with 65.3ns latency. There are no details regarding what memory configuration was used here but Raptor Lake-S Refresh CPUs are said to offer better compatibility with high-spec memory kits. So just as a recap, here's everything we can expect from Intel's 14th Gen Raptor Lake Refresh Desktop CPUs:

  • Same Architecture as Raptor Lake (Raptor Cove P-Cores + Gracemont E-Cores)
  • Same Process Node as Raptor Lake (Intel 7 aka 10nm++)
  • Higher Clock Speeds Beyond 6.0 GHz
  • Support For Faster DDR5 Memory DIMMs
  • Much Higher Power Consumption (Close To 300W)
  • Compatibility With Existing LGA 1700 / 1800 Socket Motherboards

The Intel 14th Gen Raptor Lake Desktop CPU refresh is expected either in October 2023 and will launch for both existing and new refresh LGA 1700/1800 socketed motherboards. Expect more details at the Innovation event in September.
