Earlier this year, the official iOS app for ChatGPT launched for iOS and was met with critical acclaim as people rushed to the app to finally enjoy their favorite AI chatbot on their phones. At that time, the app was not available on Android, but that changes now as the official app is finally listed on the Google Play Store. However, the catch here is that you cannot just use the app.
ChatGPT app for Android is finally here, but you cannot download it right now
The developers have gone ahead and made the listing live on Google Play Store, and at the time of writing, you can search for ChatGPT on the store, and you will be taken to the app page where you can register for the app. This means that the app is not live at the moment but should be available in the coming days.
The developers also have added screenshots, giving us a glimpse of how the app looks, and based on the screenshots alone, ChatGPT on Android looks identical to the app on iOS, and for good reasons. Having a uniform UI is always a good thing since it does not confuse people, especially when they have both iOS and Android devices.
For those wondering when the app is going to come out, I expect that you will get access to the ChatGPT for Android in the next couple of days. Considering how the app page is actually live on the Play Store, the official release date is not something that looks like it is far. So, we are going to be seeing it in a couple of days, and I am all for it. I have already registered for the app, and if you are looking to give it a try, you can go for the official link here, and register yourself.
ChatGPT coming to Android is definitely good. You no longer have to rely on the browser-based version of the app. The one thing that you must know is that this is still not on-device AI. You will still need an active internet connection for the app to function. But worry not, starting next year, we will finally start getting devices with on-device AI, all thanks to Qualcomm and Meta teaming up. So, when that happens, we will keep you posted, and you can go ahead and check this out.
