Resident Evil 4 Remake Sales Surpass 5 Million Units Worldwide In Less Than 4 Months

Resident Evil 4 Remake sales

Global Resident Evil 4 Remake sales have surpassed 5 million copies, publisher Capcom has today announced.

Capcom announced the news just now via an official press release on its Japanese website. "the multiplatform title Resident Evil 4 has sold over 5 million units worldwide", the release reads.

Resident Evil 4 Remake was released in late March of this year. This implies that the popular remake has managed to sell over 5 million units in a little less than 4 months' time. Shortly after the game's global launch, Capcom announced that the remake sold over 3 million units in just two days. Some weeks later, the publisher revealed that global sales of the title surpassed 4 million units. Fast forward two months and the game has now sold an additional 1 million copies.

Comparing the sales of Capcom's most recent Resident Evil Remake to other entries in the series is an interesting one. To date, Resident Evil 6 remains the fastest-selling entry when looking at launch sales - the game managed to sell over 4.5 million units at launch, but it took the game a full year to reach 5 million sales. Resident Evil: Village, Capcom's most recent new entry in the franchise, sold over 5.7 million copies worldwide in nine months. If Resident Evil 4 Remake manages to keep up its sales pace, it will likely surpass sales of Village before these nine months are reached.

Capcom's other recent Resident Evil remakes, Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake managed to sell, respectively, over 3 million units in three days and 2 million copies in five days after launch.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is available worldwide now for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. As covered yesterday, recent rumors suggest that Capcom plans to launch Resident Evil 9 in 2025. It is also said that the publisher has another title in the works for next year, although exact details about this 'title' haven't been shared just yet.
